Installing IBM CELL SDK on Fedora 10

January 4th, 2009 — 8:41pm

If you have Linux running on a PS3 you would be delighted to know that IBM has released an update to the IBM CELL SDK version 3.1. The earlier version 3.0 was officially supported only on Fedora 7 and this version is supported on Fedora 9. This is very welcome given that Fedora 9 is a much improved version compared to Fedora 7. At the same time, it still falls short of the latest version, Fedora 10.

My 5th marathon and 3rd Half-marathon :-)

December 29th, 2008 — 12:00am

This December 7th, I undertook the challenge of my 5th marathon race in Singapore in 5 years & my 3rd half-marathon and completed the same in under 3:30 .

It is not a record, not even a personal best but I am quite happy with the timing. Last year, I completed in 3:12. This year, the route was different and I had prepared only on a tread mill due to unpredictable weather patterns in Singapore.

I am hoping to participate and complete 4 marathons next year. Wish me good luck :-)

CIP Phone ?

September 20th, 2008 — 9:39am

2008 contains a lot of turning-point events for the mobile space. The first mobile phone based on Android OS is around the corner (engadget, informationweek report that it is weeks away). Apple rolled out iPhone 3G and also surprised the industry through the launch of its stunningly-simple-to-use App Store. Nokia the major stock holder in Symbian, the market leader in mobile OS, is unifying with the OS with all the UI frameworks (S60, UIQ, MOTS) into a Symbian foundation and will make it open source within a few months. For the last couple of years, Nokia in addition to selling Symbian OS devices also shipped a few products using a custom-built Linux distribution code-named Maemo.

ISRO creates world record

May 1st, 2008 — 10:31pm

On April 28, 2008 Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched 10 satellites into a Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO). Two of the satellites are built by ISRO for use by various Indian agencies and 8 are from international customers. The lift-off and placement of 10 satellites in one launch is a new world record and beats the current record of 8 satellites held by Russia. My hearty congratulations to ISRO.
